Johanna Husa-Russell

Physiotherapist

I graduated as a physiotherapist in Rovaniemi, Finland, in 1994 and qualified as an MDT therapist in 2016. MDT (Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy) is an approach that focuses on the assessment and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions.

In my clinical practice, I am particularly interested in the rehabilitation of various musculoskeletal conditions and injuries, as well as recovery following surgery. These include, for example, fractures, muscle, tendon and nerve injuries, and rehabilitation following disc surgery. An important goal of my treatment is always to prevent the recurrence of injuries and symptoms.

When appropriate, I also draw on my knowledge and experience of Olympic weightlifting to benefit my patients. The weightlifting techniques of the snatch and clean and jerk, together with their accessory exercises, can be highly effective tools in physiotherapy. I have been actively involved in Olympic weightlifting and have competed successfully both in Finland and internationally over the past six years. My ongoing practical experience, particularly in biomechanics and sports injury prevention, provides valuable additional perspectives on therapeutic exercise and rehabilitation.

I completed my Master of Health Sciences degree in 2007. As part of my academic work, I conducted research at the Institute of Biomechanics at ETH Zurich (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich) in Switzerland. In addition to my clinical work as a physiotherapist, I work as a lecturer in physiotherapy at a university of applied sciences.

Patients of all ages are welcome. I provide physiotherapy services in Finnish, English, German and Swedish.
